Residential Staff

Director and Associate Director of Student Services

The Director and Associate Director of Student Services are a full-time, live-in professional staff members with extensive experience working with students in residential settings. They are responsible for the coordination of the residential community as a unit and for ensuring adherence to the Residential Life Mission and Goals.

Josh Brimmeier, Director of Student Services

Joshua Brimmeier (he/him/his) - Joshua Brimmeier serves as the Director of Student Services at the University of California's Washington Center.  He has several years of experience working in Residential Life & Student Affairs having served as a Coordinator for Student Development at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and most recently as an Assistant Resident Dean at University of California, San Diego.  Josh holds three degrees: An Associate's of Science in Business with an emphasis in Travel & Tourism from Central Pennsylvania College, a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from Penn State, and a Master's of Education from Iowa State University. 

Josh grew up on the East Coast, originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Josh enjoys reading, running, traveling and going to the theatre.

Assistant Director of Student Services

Debbie Deas, Assistant Director of Student Services

Debbie Deas (she/her/hers) - Debbie is a southern native from the Palmetto State. She earned her BA in Government and Sociology from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC before moving to Bloomington, IN to get her MS in Education at Indiana University. Debbie has worked in the UC system (UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego) for almost nine years and had the privilege of participating in an unforgettable trip around the world with Semester at Sea.

Even though Howie – her 8-pound Chihuahua – is already giving her side-eye about winter, Debbie is excited to be back home on the east coast!

Coordinators of Student Development (CSD)

Coordinators are full-time, live-in professional staff members who serve as your primary point of contact for any issues or concerns that you may have while staying in the Center. One of their primary roles is to create and maintain a community which promotes academic, personal, and social growth.

Alisha Tesfalem (she/her/hers) - Alisha graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor's in Sociology and Broadcast Journalism, and MA in Education Admin with a specialization in Student Affairs. Alisha most recently served as a Diversity Graduate Assistant at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her areas of skillset are diversity and inclusion. Alisha enjoys traveling, cooking and having insightful conversations about the world.

Matt Klein (he/him/his) - Matt received his M. Ed in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia, as well as his Bachelor's in Pre-Health from the University of Tennessee beforehand. He has also spent time working in Northern California at San Jose State University, and at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. Matt loves to explore and do all of the tourist-y things in DC, so if you ever need suggestions or a buddy to explore with, let him know! During his time off, Matt can be found at the movies or enjoying the outdoors.

Young Chan Lim (he/him/his) - Young Chan graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science with concentration in Methods and Models and a minor in Education Studies. He was also a Resident Assistant in Hedrick Summit for 2 years in UCLA Residential Life. Young Chan enjoys playing the piano in the lobby late at night, reading Marvel comics, and running only when he's chased.
