Troubleshooting Tips

  • How Do I Connect My PC, Laptop or Other Device to a Wired Network Outlet?

  1. Residential Life has a small number of Ethernet cables for loan.
  2. Look for Ethernet outlets near or behind each bed in an apartment. In a few apartments the outlet may be located in the living room. Plug your Ethernet cable into the bottom socket (blue) of the outlet.
  3. Plug the other end into the Ethernet port of your device.
Step 1 Step 2 Step 3
  • How Do I Find My Devices MAC Address - A Media Access Control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to all wired or wireless networkable devices. MAC addresses use six two-character blocks to uniquely identify a device (for example, 00:09:8c:00:69:63). Also, devices can have more than one MAC address. The device pictured below has a LAN or wired MAC address and a wireless MAC address. Many times the MAC address will be printed on the device itself or its packing box. If it is not visible, please refer to your manufacturer's instructions for information on how to find the MAC address of your device.

    Finding a MAC Address

  • I Forgot My Username – Prior to arrival, all Residents (students, faculty, staff or others staying at UCDC) receive an e-mail communication from UCDC IT that includes your Username and initial Password. Look for this notification in your e-mail inbox to find your UCDC Username. If you cannot find this e-mail or your Username, you may send a query to ITsupport@ucdc.edu.

  • I Forgot My Password – You can reset your password by setting your web browser to UCDC's Password Portal (https://password.ucdc.edu). Instructions for using the UCDC Password Portal are available here. You will need your Username to access the UCDC Password Portal. If you don't remember your Username, see the "I Forgot my Username" troubleshooting tip.
Note: The computers in the Student Computer Lab on the 3rd floor are always available for you to use to reset your password. Look for the "Forgot My Password" link on the logon splash screen.

  • I'm Locked Out of My UCDC Account – UCDC allows three logon attempts before an account is locked out. To unlock you account set your web browser to UCDC's Password Portal (https://password.ucdc.edu). Instructions for using the UCDC Password Portal are available here. You will need your Username to access the UCDC Password Portal. If you don't remember your Username, see the "I Forgot my Username" troubleshooting tip.

  • I'm Not Able to Automatically Register My Device – The computers in the Student Computer Lab on the 3rd floor are always available for you to register your devices though the UCDC My Devices portal.

  1. Logon to a computer in the Student Computer Lab using your UCDC network username and password.
  2. Open a web browser and go to UCDC's device management portal at https://mydevices.ucdc.edu. Use your UCDC Username and Password to logon.
  3. In the Manage Devices window, click on the Add button and type in the MAC Address of your device. You may see other devices that you have previously connected listed in the Manage Devices window.
  4. Give your device a name and description. Use a name and description that are meaningful to you. When done click on the Continue button to complete the registration of your device.
